Japan has more than 160 volcanoes(火山), about a third of which are active(活的). The most famous is Fujiyama(富士山), or Mount Fuji. It is the highest mountain in Japan(3, 776m). This cone-shaped volcano last erupted(爆发) in 1707. To the people of Japan, Fujiyama is a sacred(恐惧的)mountain. Every year thousands climb to the top of the mountain, as a spiritual pilgrimage(朝圣).
